Engineered and Material Systems

Materials that hold the line.

Wildfires and stricter building codes are driving demand for materials that resist heat and flame without adding cost or weight. SPARK develops proprietary fire-resistant formulations for coatings, paints, panels, and building materials.

Solutions

  1. 01Formulation development
  2. 02Product integration
  3. 03Performance testing

Focus areas

  • 01Fire-resistant coatings and paints
  • 02Building panels and wallboard
  • 03Thermal-barrier materials
  • 04Lightweight protective materials
  • 05Performance testing

Why it matters

Fire-Resistant Materials & Building Safety

Wildfire exposure and tightening codes are changing what buildings and equipment must withstand, and what insurers will cover.

Solutions

How SPARK helps.

Every engagement is scoped to your question, your data, and the decision it supports.

  1. 01

    Formulation development

Develop formulations to a target fire and thermal performance.

  2. 02

    Product integration

Adapt a formulation to a partner's manufacturing process and product line.

  3. 03

    Performance testing

Evaluate candidate products against recognized fire-test methods.

Partnership opportunity

Partner with SPARK on this.

First demonstration

In early flame-exposure tests, a thin SPARK coating protected a fragile test substrate, an eggshell, from a direct butane torch for minutes, while an uncoated control failed almost immediately. Refining the formulation substantially extended that protection.
