Flagging Battery Failures Before End of Life
On independent, public battery-aging data, CascadeOS flagged every cell that went on to fail, well before it did, and raised no alarm on the cell that didn't.
The challenge
Battery cells degrade gradually, then fail. Conventional monitoring watches temperature and voltage thresholds that respond late. Storage operators and fleets need warning well before a cell reaches end of life, without false alarms on healthy cells.
What SPARK did
SPARK evaluated CascadeOS on independent, publicly available battery-aging data. CascadeOS assessed each cell partway through its life, before its outcome was known, and SPARK then compared the assessment with what actually happened.
The outcome
- CascadeOS flagged every cell that went on to reach end of life well before it did.
- CascadeOS did not flag the cell that stayed within its limit: no false alarm.
- The results came from the telemetry the cells already produced, with no additional sensors.
Why it matters
Early, specific warnings let operators plan replacements, reduce load, or isolate cells before a failure becomes a safety event or a warranty claim.
